Finally succumbed to getting a Kindle. Loving my Paperwhite!
2012
Ebooks have been around since 1971. Thanks to Michael Hart, who started Project Gutenberg, a volunteer work to create digital copies of cultural books for easy archiving. However, it wasn’t until 1998 when the first ebook readers were launched.
During those years, I have always vehemently told myself and my friends that I wouldn’t get an ebook reader.I loved physical books too much to trade them for ebooks.
Now, 14 years later… I have succumbed.

I got my Kindle Paperwhite from NelsonKrx. Heard about them from Sulit.com.ph. Browsed through their profile and loved what I saw. Feedbacks from previous buyers showed that they were really satisfied with the service. I was pretty tempted to get a Paperwhite from them right away, but I still looked for other sellers. Eventually, I found out that Nelson and Kris Villaceran offer the best prices. Not only that, they have also pledged PhP 100.00 to be donated to P.A.W.S. for every Kindle purchase. When I read about that pledge, I thought, “SOLD.”
I then contacted NelsonKrx. Had a bunch of questions, being the O.C. person that I am. Got my replies not long after I contacted them. I must say they’re really easy to talk to and answered my questions direct to the point. No nonsense whatsoever. I liked it that way.
I ordered one unit of Kindle Paperwhite on 08 November 2012 and asked if it might come in time for December. However, Kris informed me that they weren’t sure they might have units before Christmas. She even suggested buying from other sellers if I wanted my unit to arrive just in time for Christmas. I really appreciated their honesty about the possibility of their supplies not making it in time for the holidays. At least, you wouldn’t wait in vain for your order, right?
I told Kris I’d really rather buy from them because of the pledge for P.A.W.S.. I was then informed that my name was on waitlist and units might come in mid-January 2013. I was ok with that and asked if I needed to give a downpayment of sorts. To my pleasant surprise, I was informed that no downpayment was needed. They would just inform me once my unit was available.
December arrived and I was, honestly, getting restless. I was starting to wonder if I could really wait that long for my Paperwhite. Fortunately, I’ve got a hold of my E.Q. and decided to wait for word from NelsonKrx.
Come 19 December 2012, I got an SMS that went something like this: Hi! This is Kris of NKRX. I sent you a PM regarding the Paperwhite. I, then, excitedly opened my inbox and turns out some of those on waitlist could get our orders in time for Christmas! I was so excited, I made my payments on the same day I got their message. After the payment, Kris informed me that orders will be shipped the following day (20 December 2012) and I could get my tracking number.
On 21 December 2012, my sister sent me an MMS of a package with my name on it. Same photo showed that the sender was Kris Villaceran. As can be expected, I got pretty restless. I wanted to go home ASAP.
I’ve been using my Kindle Paperwhite since Friday night. I have named her Athena, since I have a penchant for all things Greek. I figured Athena was a great name for a gadget that will enlighten me about the world through my love for reading. So, yeah, my Paperwhite is officially named after the Greek goddess of wisdom.
I have yet to make a proper review of the Kindle Paperwhite, but for now I’m going to end this post to say that the Kindle Paperwhite was super worth the wait. Not only that, I’d like to recommend buying from NelsonKrx. I’m also confident to say that I’ll be buying from them again once I find something interesting from their items. :p

Hey, Louis!
I’m guessing you got a Paperwhite, too? Tried reading Archie comics on it and you’re right. It doesn’t look as great as it does on my sister’s Nexus tab, but the Paperwhite’s made me realize how much I missed reading. I’m making up for it na. Was able to finish 2 books over the holidays. Probably could have read more, but we had relatives over. Hehe! Happy new year to you and your family!
